Family Peer Support Specialist

Family Peer Support Specialist Initial Core Training

Nevada PEP

The Family Peer Support Specialist (FPSS) Training Endorsement Course provides a comprehensive introduction to core competencies of family peer support services. This program includes 40 hours of live instruction using FREDLA’s nationally recognized, evidence‑informed Parent Peer Support Practice Model Curriculum, which establishes the essential framework for delivering high‑quality Family Peer Support. Participants also complete three self‑paced modules specific to the needs of families in Nevada: a 2‑hour System of Care (SOC) overview; a 1.5‑hour course on Supporting Families in the Educational System, which covers Section 504, IDEA, and navigating Nevada’s education system; and a 1‑hour Trauma‑Informed Family Peer Support module focused on applying trauma‑responsive practices. Each component includes an exam that must be passed to earn the training endorsement and advance toward state certification, supporting Nevada’s FPSS workforce to become well‑prepared to provide authentic family peer support services that meet the needs of Nevada’s families.
